The construction and commissioning of the Stanley Nqobibzizwe Nkosi Sinter Plant was completed in the fourth quarter of 2013. In January 2014, production ramp-up was started, paving the way for full production. At full production, the plant produces 2.4 million tons of manganese sinter per annum. Through this method, not one single tonne of Kalagadi Manganese's ore leaves the Kalahari Basin unbeneficiated. At full production, this plant is the largest manganese sinter plant in the world.
Manganese sintering is a process whereby the manganese ore is coalesced at a temperature below the liquidus to produce sinter product of a specified size. The ore grade is also upgraded from the run-of-mine grade to the required grade that is suitable for the market.
